China announces visa-free travel for Danes
On September 26, 2024, during a meeting between Danish Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi at the United Nations General Assembly in New York, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi announced a Chinese diplomatic decision to implement visa-free travel for Danish citizens visiting China.
The exact timing of when the Chinese visa-free travel policy to China will take effect remains unspecified.
This announcement was made during Wang's discussions with Danish Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen, where both sides emphasized the importance of their bilateral relationship, especially as the 75th anniversary of diplomatic ties approaches in 2025.
The visa-free policy is expected to enhance tourism and facilitate greater exchanges between the two nations, reflecting the deepening strategic partnership between China and Denmark, China's only comprehensive strategic partner in Northern Europe.
In response, the minister expressed gratitude for this initiative, noting its potential to significantly boost cooperation and people-to-people connections. The meeting also touched on broader issues such as green transformation, EU-China trade relations, and Denmark's upcoming role as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council.
Denmark’s minister for foreign affairs called on China to use its influence to help bring an end to Russia's illegal war in Ukraine.
