The Embassy of the Kingdom of Denmark in Beijing is looking to recruit an experienced and result oriented advisor to take on a full-time position as Commercial Advisor focusing on corporate sustainability and sustainable supply chains within the Embassy and The Trade Council China’s matrix organisation.

 

The position is placed within The Trade Council (TC) which is a fully integrated part of the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs. TC China consists of six industry teams with around 40 employees in four locations. The TC teams deliver highly specialised and professional services to assist Danish businesses in their activities in China. As an employee of the Trade Council you will be expected to consistently deliver high quality professional assistance and contribute to the delivery of specific targets (KPI’s) for the TC China team. As a Commercial Advisor (Sustainability), you will be responsible for supporting Danish companies by providing analysis and advisory service and leverage your network in order to address concrete corporate sustainability and sustainable supply chain challenges for Danish companies, in particular those working within Energy, Water & Environment, Maritime, Life Science and Food & Agriculture. There will be an in-phasing intro period, but longer term this new role will be subject to fixed KPIs similar to other colleagues in our Trade Council team.

 

You will be reporting directly to the Embassy’s Head of Trade. Your physical location will be at the Embassy in Beijing but you will also be working closely with other team colleagues at the Trade Council China offices in Shanghai, Guangzhou and Taipei.

Main tasks and responsibilities:

 

  • Serve as the main contact point for the Embassy’s corporate sustainability advisory, including stakeholder engagement in both Denmark and China.
  • Provide corporate sustainability and sustainable supply chain advice for Danish companies that are already present in China and companies that are considering to invest in the country in cooperation with colleagues across our Trade Council team.
  • Building and maintaining an efficient contact network with local stakeholders, including authorities, business organizations and companies.
  • Monitor EU regulatory developments, especially on sustainability, and how these match Chinese initiatives and deliver tailored reports and insights to Danish companies.
  • Assist Danish companies in sourcing sustainably as well as in the fields of ESG and circular economy.
  • Monitor regulatory developments and requirements on sustainability and conduct reports and analysis for Danish companies.
  • Development of risk analyses approach and tools tailored to the market and customer groups.
  • Leverage expertise on corporate sustainability and sustainable supply chain advice in assistance to and training of TC employees who are involved in or have a direct co-responsibility for handling such cases.
  • Idea generation, business development and coordination of the TC in China in close collaboration with the Embassy’s Head of Trade.

 

Required Qualifications:

We are looking for a team player with following qualifications:

  • Minimum 5 years of progressively responsible experience in business, international trade, CSR/sustainability or government affairs.
  • Experience working with Danish, Nordic or European companies and stakeholders is a plus.
  • Familiarity with economic diplomacy, sustainability reporting, sustainable supply chains and market development is highly valued.
  • Experience with ESG reporting and regulations
  • Understanding of China’s business environment, regulations, and industry landscape within areas such as Energy, Water & Environment, Maritime, Life Science and Food & Agriculture.
  • Experience working with SMEs and navigating public-private partnerships.
  • Fluent in English – both written and spoken. Nordic language skill would be an advantage.
  • Excellent communicator and network-builder with a proactive mindset.
  • Able to work independently and in cross-cultural teams.
  • Strong planning, coordination, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Solid skills within MS Office and general good IT skills.

The Trade Council provides access to China for Danish companies, including providing assistance and advisory related to market access, public and regulatory affairs. Other assistance includes developing market entry strategies, and undertaking market analysis and partner searches to support Chinese-Danish business collaborations.

Employment conditions:

  • You will be hired as a mission employed (local terms) Commercial Advisor.
  • The employer is the Embassy of the Kingdom of Denmark in Beijing.
  • You will be offered full time employment in accordance with the “Local Staff Rules” of the Danish representations in China.
  • Your standard working hours are 40 hours per week. Your salary will reflect your qualifications, relevant work experience and proven work-related results.

  • The position will in time have sales, execution and customer satisfaction performance targets and reviews.
  • Projected starting date is as soon as possible subject to security clearance.
