The Embassy of the Kingdom of Denmark in Beijing is looking for a dynamic and efficient new staff member to fill the position of Visa and Consular Officer.

The Visa and Consular Officer will be working in the Visa and Consular Team and report to the Consul. In the daily work, the colleague will work closely with the Embassy’s other Visa and Consular Officers. The job includes assisting Danish citizens in China with passport applications and consular cases of various nature, as well as document verifications and answering inquiries by phone and e-mail from Danish and Chinese citizens. As a Visa and Consular Officer, you will need to demonstrate sound judgement and ability to handle complex rules, always delivering results with a high level of service.


Main tasks and responsibilities

You will participate in all aspects of the work of the visa and consular team, including, but not limited to:

 

  • Passport applications from Danish citizens
  • Making decisions in visa cases submitted in Beijing by the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs (official travellers)
  • Handling applications for residence permits submitted in the Embassy’s jurisdiction
  • Printing visas and refusal letters in cases decided by the visa hub (the Consulate General in Guangzhou)
  • Interviewing applicants in visa and residence permits cases
  • Answering inquiries by phone and e-mail from Danish and Chinese citizens in visa and consular cases, including questions on travel requirements to Mainland China, Hong Kong and Macau.
  • Verifications of official Danish documents
  • Consular assistance to Danish citizens, incl. hospitalisations, prison cases, deaths, etc.
  • Updating consular documents regarding contingency planning, travel advice and visa rules for China
  • Contingency planning
  • Various ad hoc visa and consular tasks.

     

    Required qualifications and experience

  • Must be EU/Schengen citizen
  • Relevant higher education and/or relevant work experience
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and work independently and efficiently
  • Strong team player with attention to detail
  • Service minded and ready to assist Danish and Chinese citizens with various matters
  • Excellent written and spoken English. Knowledge of one of the Scandinavian languages and Chinese is an advantage, but not a requirement
  • Experience from working in a cross-cultural environment is an advantage
  • Assertive personality and ability to maintain competent manners and a smile in difficult situations
  • Flexible towards work tasks and hours.

    Employment conditions

  • You will be offered part time employment on a local contract based on the relevant legally binding labour market rules of China
  • Your standard working hours will be 30 hours per week with flexibility in organising your own daily working hours
  • You will be entitled to 20 days of paid holiday per year. In addition, you will be entitled to a number of paid local holidays
  • Your salary will reflect your qualifications, relevant experience and proven work-related results
