Meet the Consul General

Søren Bindesbøll has been the Consul General of Denmark in Guangzhou covering the provinces of Guangdong, Fujian, Guangxi, Guizhou, Yunnan and Hainan since 1 August 2022. Before that, he has worked extensively with China for more than 10 years, and was responsible for economic affairs and sector policy, incl. environment, energy, science and technology, during his posting as First Secretary to the Danish Embassy in Beijing in 2010-2014. During his five years at the Asia Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Copenhagen from 2014-2019, he served as North East Asia Team Leader and Policy Expert on China.

Prior to his arrival in China, in 2019-2022 he was the Deputy Head of Mission at the Danish Embassy in Indonesia (with accreditations to Malaysia, Papua New Guinea, Timor-Leste and ASEAN), and has previously been posted to the Danish Embassies in Madrid and Stockholm. Søren has also previously served as Head of Section at the Foreign Policy Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Born in 1979, he graduated with a Master in Political Science from Aarhus University in 2007, and did part of his studies at Sciences Po in Paris as well as an internship at the Danish Embassy in Brazil, where he has previously lived.
